What is a PDF?
A PDF is a file format created by Adobe in the 1990's to aid in the integration of images, text and other media into one, simple to transfer and output file format. PDFs are also cross-platform compatible, which means that they can be used on a wide-variety of operating systems.
What type of files does Rodman Publishing accept?
Hi-res Adobe PDF, Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator.
What file format does Rodman Publishing prefer?
Hi-res PDF, because it is the least likely to be corrupted or altered from it's original state because of the fact that all the fonts / images / text are embedded in the PDF format.
What do I need to send with my digital file?
After sending us the file via FTP or other means, please also send a proof as well.
How can I send you my digital file?
Delivered compact disc or zip disk or via our FTP (See File Transfer) or E-Mail. With all files sent either mail or FTP a contract proof is required.
Do I need to send fonts with my file? Why?
Yes, because we will need them for proper output, unless you send us a PDF, which embeds the fonts in the file.
Why aren't PC fonts acceptable?
We cannot accept PC fonts solely on the basis that we are an Apple Macintosh based workplace.
What native programs do you accept?
Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark Xpress.
Do you prefer non-native application files?
No. It is easier to handle files, such as a Hi-res PDF, with all of the embedded fonts and images.
What file requirements do you have to email/FTP/CD/ZIP?
Emailed files need to be under 6 megabytes and zipped/stuffed. FTP files need only to be zipped/stuffed. CD/ZIP disks need to contain all the files , fonts, and a printout of all the files contained on the disk with a proof of the ad. But all must have a contract proof.
Do you prefer 'TIF' or 'EPS' files?
This is a complex answer. Some say TIF, some say EPS. In our case TIF is easier, no fonts or extra pics. Keep in mind some clarity issues may occur, seeing that EPS files seem to be crisper.
Who can I contact if I have a question that is not seen on this page?
Please see the contact page.
What color requirements do you have?
CMYK, or if spot proofed, please specify which color is used.
What size requirements do you have?
Please see the technical specs page.
What file size do you require? DPI?
300 dpi dot/photo, 1200 dpi line art
Why do I need to send a proof?
Because we will need to see what the ad is supposed to look like. Having a "contract proof" is required so the color and ad are approved prior to sending to us.
Why is my color inkjet proof not good enough as a color proof?
While your inkjet printer may provide great color and dpi, it may not be up to printing press specifications and it is not contract proof.
What is a contract proof?
Approval proof or matched print made directly from the file from the approved proof printer. This is an exact replication of the color, that will be used to verify print/reproduction quality on press.
Whould I use collect for output in quark?
Yes, it collects all the files that are used in the native application Quark. This way when the file is reopened by us, all artwork and fonts are present and accounted for.
